Shaun Winkler of the White Knights of the KKK will go up against incumbent Sheriff Daryl Wheeler and Ponderay police officer Tim Fry in the Republican primary on May 15. The winner of that contest will face independent candidate Rocky Jordan in November.
The Bonner County Daily Bee reports Winkler has ties to the Aryan Nations and Church of Jesus Christ-Christian, and has been involved in race-related protests in Kootenai County. Winkler acknowledges his personal beliefs could cast a pall over his campaign.
